What is an Inter-library Loan (ILL) and how do I request it?

Answer

Inter-library Loan (ILL) is a service that provides resources to College staff and students from other libraries (i.e., books, or journal articles, that are not kept at the College library).

There may be a fee involved to be paid by the patron, depending on the lending library where the resource is coming from. The library patron will be notified of the fee before the resource is requested from the lending library.

An Inter-library Loan can be requested at any time.

Guidelines for Inter-Library Loan (ILL):

  • Please allow a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks for the materials to arrive.
  • A fee may be charged by the lending library.
  • The lending library determines the conditions and limitations on the use of borrowed materials. Copying of loaned materials must be in accordance with the Copyright Act of Canada.
  • Materials must be returned by the due date provided on the item.  Failure to do so could result in the suspension of interlibrary loan privileges.

You can submit your ILL request here.
